Terms of Use and Community Rules
Effective date: 1 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Itani, the trading name of Ahmed Itani, an individual developer in Ontario, Canada ("I", "me", "we"), who makes and runs Qahwa (the "app"). By playing online or buying anything in the app you accept these terms and the Community Rules below. If you do not accept them, you can still play offline against the computer, but you may not use online features or buy anything. The Privacy Policy explains how your data is handled.
1. Who can play
- Online features (online tables, Diwaniya clans, Country Cup, leaderboards, the store) are for players aged 13 or over. Players under 13 may only play offline against the computer.
- If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you, and you need their permission before any purchase.
- You may not play online if I have banned you before, or if the law forbids you from using the app.
2. Your online account
- The app creates an anonymous account the first time you go online. It is tied to the app on your device. If you uninstall the app or lose your device without linking a Google account, the account, its progress and its purchases cannot be recovered. Linking a Google account (when this option is available in Settings) lets you sign back in on another phone.
- Keep your Player ID private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Do not sell, buy, share or transfer accounts.
- You can delete your account at any time (see Account and data deletion).
3. The app and your licence to use it
I grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial entertainment, on devices you own or control, in line with these terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from. The app, its code, artwork, music, voices, names and logos belong to me or my licensors. You may not copy, modify, sell, reverse-engineer (except where the law allows it), or create cheats, bots or unofficial servers for the app.
The card games themselves (Tarneeb, Trix, Baloot and the others) are traditional games that belong to everyone. The names of other companies' products belong to their owners, and the app is not affiliated with them.
4. Coins, beans, Karam and virtual items: no cash value
- The app has coins (earned by playing), beans (earned in small amounts or bought with real money) and Karam points (a reputation score you receive when other players send you gifts). These, together with XP, badges, frames, card backs, tables, stickers and all other virtual items, are a limited licence to use inside Qahwa. They have no cash value, are not your property, are not money or a payment method, cannot be exchanged for money or anything of real value, and cannot be transferred, sold or traded between players or used outside the app.
- Your balances are kept on my servers. The server decides every reward and every spend; a balance shown as "pending" is not final until the server confirms it.
- Karam points cannot be spent or traded. A gift you send is used up when you send it; nothing of value moves to the other player.
- I may change, rebalance or remove virtual items, prices and rewards (for example to fix a bug or an exploit). Items or balances obtained through a bug, cheating or a refunded payment may be removed.
- Deleting your account, or a permanent ban for breaking these terms, permanently removes your virtual items and balances, including bought beans you have not used. They have no cash value, so there is no refund or compensation, except where the law or Google Play's policies require it.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
- All purchases are made through Google Play and Google Play's terms of service also apply. Google Play shows the price in your currency, including any taxes it charges, before you pay. I never see your payment details.
- Bean packs, bundles and passes are delivered to your account as soon as Google Play confirms the payment. A payment that is still pending (for example a cash or carrier payment) is delivered when it completes.
- Refunds are handled under Google Play's refund policies. You can ask Google for a refund in Google Play (Order history > Request a refund) or at play.google.com. If you have a problem with a purchase that Google cannot solve, email support@playqahwa.com with your Player ID and the Google Play order number (it starts with "GPA."). Nothing in these terms limits a refund right you have under the law.
- If a payment is refunded or charged back, I remove what it delivered. If you already spent the beans, your bean balance can become negative and must be back above zero before you can spend beans again. Repeated refund abuse can lead to the store being closed for your account.
- Qahwa VIP (subscription): the weekly and monthly plans renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. An introductory price, if offered, is shown by Google Play before you pay and then the normal price applies. The 30-day prepaid plan is charged once and never renews.
- Cancelling: cancel any time in Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions, or from Settings > Account > Manage subscription in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals; VIP stays active until the end of the period you paid for. There are no refunds for a partly used period, except where the law or Google Play's policies require it. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.
- If the price of a subscription changes, Google Play tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your agreement.
- Restore purchases: Settings > Account > Restore purchases (also in the store). Subscriptions and one-time items are tied to your Qahwa account and your Google Play account; beans are restored by signing in to the same linked account.
6. Rewarded ads (when ads are enabled)
- Some rewards may be available for watching a short ad. Watching is always optional and starts only when you tap it. The reward is shown before you start and is given once the ad network confirms that the ad was watched.
- Daily limits apply. Rewards are virtual items only, never money, beans or anything of real value.
- Players under 13 never see ads. Players aged 13 to 17 see only non-personalised ads. VIP members get these rewards without watching ads.
7. No gambling
The app is for entertainment only. There is no real-money gambling, there are no prizes of real-world value, and coins, beans and items can never be cashed out. You cannot stake coins, beans or items on the result of a game. Tournaments and cups are free to enter. Some traditional games include betting-style rules (for example raising the stakes in Mus or Truco); these involve only game points. You must not use the app to organise bets, wagers or side payments of money or anything of value on the outcome of games, and you must not sell coins, beans, items or accounts. Doing so is a serious breach of these terms.
8. Community Rules
The app is built for friends and families. When you play online, you must not:
- Use an offensive name for yourself or a clan: insults, swearing, sexual, hateful, violent or extremist words, drugs, or anything mocking a religion, ethnicity, nationality, dialect, gender or disability.
- Impersonate another person, a moderator, the developer, or another app or company.
- Harass or bully other players, for example by repeatedly sending throwables or stickers to annoy someone, targeting a player across tables, or pressuring players.
- Cheat: use modified apps, bots, scripts or automation; collude with other players at a table; exploit bugs; or farm points, coins or clan rewards with fake or multiple accounts.
- Share personal information (yours or anyone else's) through names, clan names or any other way, or try to contact other players, especially minors, outside the app for inappropriate purposes.
- Endanger children in any way. See the Child Safety Standards. I report such conduct to the authorities.
- Advertise, spam or scam, including selling accounts, coins, beans or "boosting" services.
- Break the law or help someone else break these rules.
Clan leaders (the Sheikh and deputies) are also responsible for their clan's name, crest and tags, and for removing members who break these rules.
9. Reporting, blocking and moderation
- You can report players, chat messages and clans, and block players, from inside the app. For anything urgent, email support@playqahwa.com; for a child's safety, safety@playqahwa.com.
- I review reports and aim to give a first response within 24 hours, and to act on them within 48 hours. Anything involving the safety of a child comes first.
- Depending on how serious and repeated the behaviour is, I may: warn you; reset a display name or clan name; remove a clan's crest or tags, or archive the clan; remove a player from a clan or table; mute chat; remove virtual items or balances gained by cheating; suspend online access temporarily; or permanently ban the account from online features. Offline play is not affected by bans. A banned player keeps access to account deletion.
- Serious cases (threats, child safety, illegal content) lead to an immediate permanent ban and may be reported to the authorities.
- Filters help, but they are not perfect: I cannot check everything in advance and I am not responsible for what other players do, though I will act on reports.
- Appeals: if you believe a decision was wrong, email support@playqahwa.com within 30 days with your Player ID. A person will review it and reply.
10. Content you create
Names, clan names, crests, tags and the choices you make (phrases, stickers) are shown to other players. You give me a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and use them to run the app for as long as they are in the app. You confirm that what you submit does not break these terms or anyone's rights. I may remove or change content that breaks these rules.
11. Changes, availability and termination
- I may update the app, add or remove games or features, or stop the online service. For a significant change that affects you negatively, I will give notice in the app. I will give at least 30 days' notice before permanently shutting down online services, and if paid features stop working before the end of a period you paid for, you will be refunded for the unused part as the law and Google Play's policies require.
- The online service may sometimes be unavailable (maintenance, outages).
- You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. I may suspend or end your online access if you break these terms, as described in section 9.
12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, I give no warranty that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that the computer players will play perfectly. To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of virtual items, progress or data, and my total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the app and in-app purchases in the 12 months before the claim, or CAD 50, whichever is higher. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law where you live (for example Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002, Quebec's Consumer Protection Act, or EU and UK consumer law), or liability that cannot be limited by law (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
13. App store terms
These terms are between you and me, not Google or Apple. If you downloaded the app from Google Play, Google Play's terms of service also apply. An iPhone version is not available yet. If you download the app from the Apple App Store in the future: Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support; if the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which may refund the purchase price (if any), and Apple has no other warranty obligation; I, not Apple, am responsible for handling claims relating to the app (including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection and intellectual property claims); you confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without affecting the mandatory consumer protections of the place where you live. Please contact me first at support@playqahwa.com; most problems can be solved quickly. If not, disputes go to the courts of the Province of Ontario, unless the law of the place where you live gives you the right to go to your local courts.
15. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms. I will change the date at the top and, for important changes, ask you to accept the new version in the app before you continue to play online. The English version is the official version; the Arabic translation is provided for convenience. If they differ, the English version applies, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
