How the scoring works
How Tarneeb is scored
- Bid made: the bidding team scores the tricks it took. A bid of 13 made scores 26, and all 13 tricks on a smaller bid score 16.
- Bid missed: the bidding team loses the value of its bid, and the other team scores the tricks it took.
- By default the defenders score nothing when the bid is made. Some tables let them keep their tricks: tick Defenders keep their tricks to score that way.
- Scores can go below zero. The game ends after a hand in which a team reaches 41; if both teams are there, the higher score wins, and equal scores play another hand.
Example: you bid 8 and take 9 tricks, so you score 9 and they score nothing. Take only 7 and you lose 8, while they score their 6.
How 400 is scored
In 400 partners sit opposite, but each player bids alone, from 2 to 13 tricks, and hearts are always trump. Take at least your bid and you win its value; take fewer and you lose it. Extra tricks, and your partner's tricks, don't count for you.
- Bid values: 2, 3 and 4 score their face value, 5 scores 10, 6 scores 12, 7 scores 14, 8 scores 16, 9 scores 27, and 10 to 13 score 40.
- From 30 points, your bids of 5 and 6 score just 5 and 6, and your lowest bid rises: 3 from 30 points, 4 from 40 and 5 from 50.
- The four bids must add up to at least 11; once any player has 30, 40 or 50 points, to at least 12, 13 or 14. If they don't, nobody scores and the cards are dealt again.
- A team wins when one partner has 41 or more and the other is above zero. If both teams get there in the same hand, the higher total of the two partners wins.

Questions
How many points do you need to win Tarneeb?
41 under the Qahwa app's default rules: the first team to reach 41 after a hand wins. Many tables also play to 31 or 61, and both sheets on this page let you pick those targets. Read the Tarneeb guide
What happens if the bidding team misses its bid?
It loses the value of the bid (a missed 9 is -9), and the other team scores the tricks it took. Scores can go below zero.
How much is a bid of 13 worth in Tarneeb?
A bid of 13 made scores 26. Taking all 13 tricks on a smaller bid scores 16. Read the Tarneeb guide
Why won't the 400 sheet add my hand?
It follows the 400 rules: the four bids must reach the table minimum (11, rising to 12, 13 and 14), each bid must reach that player's own minimum, and the tricks must add up to 13. The message under the form says which one is missing.
Is Syrian 41 scored like 400?
No. In Syrian 41 a bid of 2 to 4 scores its face value and a bid of 5 or more scores double. This page scores Tarneeb and 400.
